This is a Father’s Day tale for all those fathers who spend too much time in airplanes or on the road and are missing out on  seeing their kids grow up.  The window of time before they leave for college or other places is painfully short.  Jimmy Brown was tired of it and felt he wanted to be part of his community in a more lasting way.  This is his story of getting off the corporate wheel and building a family business that he hopes will leave a legacy.

Jimmy – tell us a little bit about your background.

I have been in the chemical disposal field for 17 years – most recently managing 6 states with a crew of 65 people in field services.  My volunteer activities included being fire chief of the Avalon Volunteer Fire Dept. and serving on the board of the Avalon Water Dept. I am running for school board this year.

What was happening in your life that caused you to want to own a business?

My company was merging, and I just felt the time was right.

Is your family involved in the business?

I have a 10-year girl, 6-year-old girl and a 1-year old boy and they all help where they can!  I am hoping to build my Advantaclean business to give to my kids to run one day.

Would you have done anything differently now that you know what you know?

I would have hired more people from the start and also would have started this 3 years ago

What’s the best thing about owning your own business?

Freedom, knowing you’re making a difference in your family life and in your community

Anything else you want people to know?
